Former Manchester United assistant coach Brian Kidd has paid a moving tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson, insisting he was the greatest manager of the modern era and emphasising his gratitude for the Scot taking him under his wing.

It was revealed on Saturday evening that Ferguson had suffered a brain haemorrhage and was admitted to emergency surgery, which was said to have gone “very well”.

Tributes have poured in from all over the world for the boss, and Kidd, who worked alongside Ferguson from 1991 to 1998 and now works with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, gave one of the more moving, insightful tributes to the great man following his side’s title celebrations on Sunday afternoon.
