Marcus Rashford: It’s enjoyable playing under Gareth Southgate

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has insisted it’s enjoyable playing under England manager Gareth Southgate as he looks forward to the World Cup.

The Englishman is expected to be one of the players picked for the senior international team squad that heads to Russia in the summer.

Rashford is highly rated by his nation but more importantly by Southgate who will soon have to pick the squad that will aim to compete.

The Three Lions aren’t expected to go that far in the competition given the youthful nature of the squad but there’s hopes they will put in good performances.

England tend to underperform in tournaments as the pressure gets to it’s players but under Gareth there’s hope things will be different this time.

According to the club’s official website, Marcus said: “He’s brought a massive amount of freedom, especially to the forward players, but it’s within a structure. So we have a baseline and we know what we’re doing.

“We know what our individual roles are and we still need to learn and develop that. But yeah, it’s enjoyable playing under him and we just hope for the most success possible in the World Cup.”

United fans will be cheering on Marcus Rashford and all of their stars who will feature in this year’s hotly anticipated competition.

Jesse Lingard is another player who supporters want to see receive a deserved call up after his outstanding season and it helps that Gareth Southgate is a fan.

Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Ashley Young and Luke Shaw all have to fight for their spots as they’re currently doubts for selection.
