Manchester United: Two stars named in Argentina’s provisional World Cup squad

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United have two of their stars already named in Argentina’s provisional World Cup squad for the tournament that’s set to take place in the upcoming summer in Russia.

Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero have both been called up for their nation despite neither player truly having impressive seasons.

Though the goalkeeper is a very adequate player, he’s always going to play backup to David de Gea and in turn feature infrequently for United.

His lack of appearances though hasn’t hurt his standing in the International set up and it appears Rojo’s injury plagued season hasn’t affected his call up either.

The defender has had to recover from a serious injury sustained last season and since returning has mainly played backup to Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

Either way it’s good to see the two get international recognition once more and they’re both expected to make the final squad too.

Both players have benefitted from a lack of viable alternatives in their respective positions and even if they aren’t starters they’ll still have a spot in Argentina’s set up.

Marcos and Sergio will have plenty to prove in the World Cup and should the South American nation have a chance to win the competition then they’ll need both in tip top form.
