Romelu Lukaku has been training with the rest of the Manchester United squad since Tuesday and travelled down to London ahead of Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup Final against Chelsea.
However, judging by Jose Mourinho’s comments in the build-up it still seems like a touch-and-go decision on whether he will feature at Wembley Stadium in the last, and arguably most important, fixture of the season.
Man United have struggled since Lukaku was forced off injured in April’s 2-1 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford and it would be a mammoth blow if he was absent as they go for the third major trophy in two years.
Thinking positively ahead of the showpiece final, here’s a potential XI WITH Lukaku in the side.
Even though Mourinho has been trialling a three-at-the-back system at the end of the season, it is likely that he will stick to the familiar 4-3-3 with a midfield trio of Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba on such a large occasion.
There could be more frustration for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial fans as it is expected that the first choice front line of Wembley hero Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez and the returning Lukaku will start.
The three-at-the-back system does make United look stronger at times, and combats Antonio Conte’s system with Chelsea, but it seemed like Mourinho did it so players could get game time, rather than tactically.
