Fans react to the prospect of Yaya Toure joining Manchester United

Manchester United fans have resoundingly rejected the prospect of Yaya Toure moving to Old Trafford on a free transfer this summer.

The Ivorian becomes a free agent next month after eight years at Manchester City and has previously voiced his desire to remain in the Premier League.

He refused to rule out joining Man United in a recent interview, emphasising that he wants to play for a big club and, interestingly, with Paul Pogba, who he deeply admires as a player.

A strange prospect indeed. So I asked United supporters on Twitter whether they thought this would be a good idea. The response was clear and comprehensive.

As ESPN‘s Alex Shaw rightly points out, bringing in an ambling midfielder in his mid-thirties would only compound rather than ameliorate the sluggishness which has so often hallmarked United’s tempo through the middle this season.

At the same time, sadly, it would be an extremely typical Mourinho and United transfer: a high profile name, somebody with a very good record and dressing room presence, but ultimately not the profile the club ought to be looking at when it comes to righting the wrongs of the 2017/18 campaign.
