Swansea-linked manager Willy Sagnol has attempted to explain Anthony Martial‘s poor form at Manchester United by suggesting he’s not mentally strong enough.
The Frenchman has once more failed to impress Jose Mourinho enough to truly get a run in the starting XI with his inconsistencies seeing him left out of the France World Cup squad.
Martial was United’s player of the month during the winter period but ended the season on the bench which is ironically how he started it as well.
Mourinho doesn’t appear to truly trust the versatile attacker and Sagnol suggests it could be because of his mentality.
It’s not the first time Anthony has been accused of having a poor attitude but hopefully it’s the last with fans hoping he can press on next season.
According to Mirror, Willy said: “Talent will help you to go to another club and have your name in the newspaper. But at the end the mentality of the player always makes the difference, one way or another.
“Maybe Anthony hasn’t been strong enough in Manchester where you have a lot of talents such as Rashford, Lukaku and now when more with Sanchez.”
Anthony Martial‘s talent is well known to supporters but he will have to show it more consistently in order to become a regular name on the team sheet.
The former AS Monaco man has the added advantage of appearing to be a more capable striker than his competitor Marcus Rashford though no one leads the line for the Red Devils like Romelu Lukaku.
Unfortunately for Martial, Jose doesn’t play a two striker formation often enough and though reports link him with a move away from the club, there’s still hope he can be a top talent for the club.
