Manchester United are reportedly considering launching a £30m move for Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo this summer.
Alex Sandro looks to be Mourinho’s first choice left-back option, with Danny Rose and Kieran Tierney also in the picture, but he is also interested in finding a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia on the other side of the defence.
The Mirror reports that Cancelo has emerged as an option, while Southampton’s Cedric Soares is also being looked at as a potential summer signing.
A major stepping stone in a potential deal would be that Inter Milan, the club which Cancelo spent the 2017-18 campaign on loan at, have a clause to make the deal permanent.
However, the Serie A club are yet to take up that option which has reportedly caught United’s interest now that another transfer window expected to be full of spending is underway.
United already have a perfectly valid option to replace Valencia, or even provide competition next season, in Timothy Fosu-Mensah, who returns after a successful loan stint at Crystal Palace.
Cancelo’s arrival would suggest the Mourinho doesn’t see the young talent as a right-back going forward though, but talk of the Portuguese full-back arriving seems like speculation at this point.
