Anthony Martial in talks to extend contract at Manchester United – report

Anthony Martial has reportedly opened negotiations with Manchester United regarding a new contract at the club.

The January arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal and immense form of Jesse Lingard has led to minimal game time for Martial after such a good start to the 2017-18 campaign.

Martial didn’t score and made just one assist in the Premier League after Alexis came to the club and immediately replaced him as the first-choice left winger.

It’s because of this that he is thought to be unhappy at Man United and, if reports were to be believed, rejected contract talks last month due to large concerns over his minutes.

However, The Sun have provided positive news that the fan favourite is in talks with United about a contract extension, despite starting just six matches since January and being left out of the France squad for the summer World Cup.

European giants including Juventus, Paris-Saint Germain and Premier League trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were all put on red alert when Martial reportedly fell out with manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho’s savage public criticism of Martial after the 1-0 loss at Brighton and Hove Albion at the start of this month in which he said the Frenchman’s poor performance was why he heavily depends on Romelu Lukaku only fueled suggestions that he’d be on his way out of Manchester.

The news that the 22-year-old could be set to agree on a new deal at United will come as a pleasant surprise for supporters, and hopefully the player’s fortunes change soon so he can fill his full potential at Old Trafford.
