Jamie Redknapp: Gareth Bale will help Manchester United catch Manchester City

Jamie Redknapp believes if Manchester United want to have any hopes of catching Manchester City then they must sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.

The Welshman sparked the rumours linking him with Jose Mourinho’s side once more by admitting he feels the need to be playing week in and week in.

Bale’s injury at the start of the season seemed to cost him regular match time but it’s clear to see he’s unhappy with how often he’s featured.

At United the talented winger would obviously play as often as he can but whether there’s genuine interest in leaving Spain is yet to be seen.

Redknapp though believes Mourinho should do all he can to sign Gareth as the former Tottenham man would make all the difference in a title race.

According to the Express, Jamie wrote in the Daily Mail: “I wrote in my last column of the season that if Manchester United want to stop playing boring football, Jose Mourinho should go out and sign him.

“Mourinho is not going to make a player like Bale track back and help out the left back. He will want to get the ball to him at the top of the team and win them matches.

“After the final whistle on Saturday night, Jose should have been straight on the phone to Ed Woodward. Buy Bale and the United fans would believe they can catch Manchester City next season.”

Gareth Bale certainly fits the mould of player that not only the Red Devils have a history of having on board but also the type of player they need at the moment.

On the right wing their current options are Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata, though both players would prefer to feature in the attacking midfield position instead.

Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have all been tested out there but it’s fair to say none have truly impressed.
