Pat Nevin: I can see Willian as a Manchester United player

by Marwan Harraz

Pat Nevin has claimed that a move for Willian to Manchester United is quite likely despite Chelsea unwilling to strengthen their rivals once more.

The Brazilian is reportedly a target for Jose Mourinho and with reports emerging of a rift between the player and Antonio Conte, a move could be on.

Willian played under the Portuguese manager during their time together at Stamford Bridge and the pair clearly trust each other.

Mourinho has denied any interest in signing any attacking players but rumours have still continued to grow on who he’s targeting next.

Nevin believes a move for Willian is very plausible and has praised the player for his attributes; attributes that the former Chelsea manager is known to love.

According to the Sport Review, Pat said to Newstalk: “I can see Willian as a Man United player under Mourinho.

“Although he is a tricky player, he can be direct and do the right things. If there is a rift and Antonio Conte stays, that’s the obvious place for him to go.”

Willian would be the obvious alternative to United’s interest in Real Madrid star Gareth Bale since he would cost considerably cheaper.

The Welshman is keen on more match-time next season but the Spanish side are unwilling to sell for under £200m according to some reports.

The Blues’ player though should be available for less money, particularly since he is said to want out of the club if Conte remains.

Whether Jose is able to bring in either player is yet to be seen but perhaps his efforts are better spent elsewhere.
