Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has dampened Manchester United fans’ hopes of watching Gareth Bale at Old Trafford next season by stating the Welshman is ‘not for sale.’
Bale is unhappy with his role at Real Madrid in the 2017-18 season and made those thoughts clear after he scored a brace to help Real beat Liverpool 3-1 in the Champions League Final on Saturday.
Zinedine Zidane seemingly prefers midfielder Isco and striker Karim Benzema in his 4-4-2 (narrow diamond) formation, and limited Bale to just 39 appearances in all competitions throughout the campaign.
Balague, Sky Sports’ man for La Liga news, claims that Real have no interest in selling the 28-year-old though, and tweeted on Tuesday: “[Gareth] Bale is not for sale, he has been told. It will be a long summer.
“The meeting between his representatives and Real might change [the club’s stance] but won’t happen for at least 2 weeks.
“Real might insist he isn’t for sale but Bale wants to be pleased with the outcome and treated with the respect of his status. He feels should play regularly and have a bigger role.”
Despite the issues in his fifth season at the Bernabeu, Bale accumulated 21 goals and eights assists and proved his quality with a breath-taking bicycle-kick to restore Real’s lead against Liverpool in Kiev.
There’s no doubting that he is a world-class star who deserves to be played week-in and week-out, and Man United are thought to be at the front of the queue if he wanted a Premier League return this summer.
Expect more developments once the meeting between Bale’s representatives and Real takes place next month.
