Yaya Toure has warned his former club Manchester City that Jose Mourinho will be angry following last season’s runaway Premier League title win.
City great Toure played a small part as Pep Guardiola’s side became the first to reach 100 points in top-flight history in the 2017-18 season, but was released at the end of the campaign after eight years in Manchester.
Guardiola has set his players the task of retaining the Premier League for the first time in the club’s history to prove they can be “serial winners,” but Toure has admitted he doesn’t think they will not have it as easy in the 2018-19 season.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Toure said: “Mourinho is going to be very angry. Tottenham are a good side. Fantastic.
“Man City can win again – but it depends. The World Cup is on, the players don’t have enough rest and have to come back and play again.
“If they don’t have injuries they can make it – but it’s going to be difficult because next year is going to be a different situation.”
Liverpool are also tipped to challenge Man City for the title after exciting midfield acquisitions Naby Keita from Red Bull Leipzig and Fabinho from AS Monaco.
Despite securing second place last term, United finished 19 points behind rivals City and will be hoping for a much stronger challenge come May next year.
Shakhtar Donetsk defensive midfielder Fred is set to become the first signing of the summer in a deal worth around £50m, with Toby Alderweireld and Alex Sandro rumoured to also arrive at Old Trafford during the close season.
