Joel Pereira attracting interest from top clubs in Italy and Spain – report

by Leo Nieboer

Manchester United’s third choice keeper Joel Pereira has attracted interest from clubs in La Liga and Serie A this summer, according to reports.

Pereira, who joined the club in 2012, enjoyed a successful loan spell at Belenenses last season and was rewarded with a Premier League debut against Crystal Palace.

The Portuguese’s only performance of the 2017/18 campaign, however, came from the bench in a 4-1 League Cup win over Burton Albion in September.

According to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson, Real Sociedad, Sevilla and Real Betis, alongside Italian sides like Torino, Atalanta and Fiorentina, have all made enquiries regarding the 21-year-old, who wants to play regular football and would be open to a move if the right offer came along.

Pereira is at a club which boasts the best goalkeeping duo around in David de Gea and Sergio Romero, and would have no doubt learned a number of valuable lessons.

But there comes a time when you must, as a professional, take the next step, and for Pereira that comes in the form of playing every week. He is certainly good enough to be doing so already. And you sense there will be a number of a clubs ready to give him that chance over the summer.
