Manchester United are reportedly preparing a bid to bring Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale back to the Premier League in a deal which is expected to exceed £85m.
Bale seemed dead-set on leaving Real due to a strained relationship with manager Zinedine Zidane, but after the Frenchman’s shock departure he could have had a complete change of heart.
It has been speculated for months that Real president Florentino Perez is keen to offload one of Bale, Karim Benzema or Cristiano Ronaldo this summer in an attempt to restructure and rejuvenate the squad.
Duncan Castles of the Daily Record reckons that player could be the Welshman and reports that are ready to launch a pursuit, with close sources to Bale stating that he is open to offers from big European clubs.
Castles also reports that Man United are willing to match Bale’s extortionate wages to lure him to Old Trafford ahead of the 2018-19 season.
Despite previously stating in February that he doesn’t want anymore attacking players at United, Mourinho seems to be eyeing a natural right winger to help balance his underfiring attack.
He is said to be eyeing Chelsea’s Willian if a move for Bale doesn’t materialise, as well as West Ham United forward Marko Arnautovic, however, he is wanted as back-up for main striker Romelu Lukaku.
This could turn out to be the saga of the summer. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how it plays out, especially now that Zidane isn’t at the Santiago Bernabeu anymore and Bale isn’t participating in the World Cup.
