Manchester United have completed the signing of FC Porto right-back Diogo Dalot and could make an announcement on Tuesday evening.
Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred has already been announced as Man United’s first summer acquisition on a five-year deal, and Dalot is expected to follow shortly afterwards.
United agreed a fee of around £20m with FC Porto for Dalot at the start of the week and the Portugal under-21 international underwent a medical this morning before signing his long-term contract.
Reliable club insider Craig Norwood tweeted this earlier on today.
Dalot is thought to be seen as an understudy to Antonio Valencia for the start of the 2018-19 season, but also the 32-year-old Ecuadorian’s eventual successor.
The 19-year-old has only played eight games of first-team football for Porto, including a Champions League Round of 16 trip to Anfield against Liverpool last season, in which he helped hold the eventual finalists to a 0-0 draw.
Dalot has been described as an aggressive full-back, capable of playing on both sides of the defence, with impeccable crossing ability and an eye for goal.
He is expected to be the first of a few defensive signings ahead of next season, with Juventus left-back Alex Sandro and Tottenham Hotspur Toby Alderweireld targets for later on in the transfer window.
United have made a great start to the close season though, adding Fred and Diogo Dalot the squad before the 2018 World Cup kicks off in Russia.
