Brazilian midfielder Fred has sent his first message to Manchester United fans since being confirmed as the club’s first signing of the summer this afternoon.
Man United agreed a £52m deal with Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk before Fred passed his medical at Carrington on Monday, and he then signed a five-year contract in London earlier today.
Fred’s arrival was confirmed via the club’s YouTube channel with the website and other social media accounts following suit soon afterwards.
The 25-year-old was quick to address the United fan base after a busy day training with Brazil at Tottenham Hotspur’s Enfield Training Centre ahead of jetting off to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
“Proud to be red. #FredIsRed,” Fred states as he now starts the countdown to when he’s patrolling the United midfield alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba throughout the 2018-19 season.
Fred is a very anti-Mourinho signing, standing at 5ft 7in, which could hint at a change in tactical approach from next season onwards – switching from a stubborn, resolute set up to a dynamic, ball-on-the-ground style of play.
FC Porto right-back Diogo Dalot has followed Fred through the door at Old Trafford after also passing his medical and agreeing personal terms at the start of the week.
