Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has added to Manchester United fans’ excitement today after reacting to Fred’s £52m transfer on social media.
The Brazil international has joined Man United on a five-year deal from Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk and is the first Old Trafford incoming of the summer.
With Michael Carrick retiring at the end of last season and Marouane Fellaini‘s contract set to expire, Jose Mourinho only has a handful of midfielders to choose from, even with the arrival of Fred, which has sparked suggestions that he’s after another player in the position during the transfer window.
Milinkovic-Savic is reportedly Mourinho’s no. 1 target as a more advanced option and he was seen interacting with an Instagram post confirming Fred’s move earlier on.
Mourinho is keen to bring Milinkovic-Savic to United ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, but SS Lazio’s £100m valuation of the Serb has reportedly turned him off a move for the time being.
United are thought to be happy with paying up to £80m for Milinkovic-Savic but could move for Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Verratti if Lazio don’t budge on the price.
The 23-year-old has scored 24 and provided 20 assists for the Serie A club since joining in 2015 and will be a great acquisition if United can wrap up a huge deal for his services.
