New Manchester United midfielder Fred has suffered a worrying injury in Brazil training, just a week before the 2018 World Cup kicks off in Russia.
Man United announced on Tuesday that they have agreed a fee, thought to be £49m, with Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk for the 25-year-old.
Fred travelled to Manchester on Sunday after starring in Brazil’s 2-0 World Cup warm-up win over Croatia at Anfield in Liverpool before agreeing personal terms and undergoing a medical at the start of the week.
However, he hasn’t made the best of starts to life as a Man United player after being forced to leave Brazil training early following a crunching challenge from Real Madrid’s Casemiro.
Brazil have been training at Tottenham Hotspur’s Enfield Training Centre before jetting off to Russia for final preparations ahead of their Group E opener against Switzerland.
It would be a huge blow for Fred to be out of contention for the start of the World Cup, never mind the whole of it, and an even bigger blow if it affected his pre-season training with United.
Casemiro looked like he did the most damage to Fred’s ankle and now we must eagerly await the team doctor’s diagnosis, however, early indications suggest the doctor ‘wasn’t worried’. Fingers crossed it’s nothing major.
