Marcus Rashford names performance against Costa Rica his best for England

Marcus Rashford left Manchester United supporters drooling with a sublime performance for England against Costa Rica, as they won 2-0 at Elland Road in their final World Cup warm-up match.

Rashford wasn’t expected to be in with a shot of starting for Gareth Southgate’s side as they kick-off their campaign against Tunisia in just 10 days time, however gave the manager a lot to think about in Leeds on Thursday night.

He cut a confident figure throughout the whole game and showed off his best footwork and trickery before firing in a stunning 25-year strike to open the scoring in the 13th minute, and he described the match as his best in an England shirt afterwards.

“When one comes off in a game, it’s the reward you get for the practice,” he told ITV. “Best performance for England? I’d say so, I just tried to play free today and enjoy myself.”

The Rashford we saw for England on Thursday almost looked like a completely different player to the unconfident, stressed Rashford we saw in Man United’s FA Cup Final defeat to Chelsea.

He experienced a tough end to the 2017-18 season under Jose Mourinho and was limited to just eight starts after the turn of the new year, so it was great to see him enjoying his football again wearing the national shirt.
