Dwight Yorke: We don’t know much about Diogo Dalot and Fred

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke doesn’t seem entirely convinced on Jose Mourinho’s two signings of the summer Diogo Dalot and Fred.

The Portuguese manager has tried to move as swiftly as possible in completing the transfers of his targets though things have slowed down with the arrival of the World Cup.

United have two difficult factors to navigate through this summer as it’s a shorter than usual transfer window and one in which the international tournament makes it difficult to complete signings.

Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred and Diogo Dalot aren’t superstar names that all fans will know of and so Yorke is a little skeptical of the impact they will make in a division they’ve never featured in.

Mourinho though will feel he’s thoroughly scouted his transfers and believes in them but he will know a marquee signing is needed as well.

According to the Daily Star, Dwight said to 888sport: “We don’t know too much about Dalot and Fred and they haven’t been tested yet in our league.

“Jose has looked to improve as United always does and to do his business as early as possible.

“Every team each year looks to improve themselves by 10 per cent but City have set the benchmark and now it’s down to United to respond to that.”

Centre-back has to be the position that the Red Devils need a superstar signing in more than any other position given the weaknesses there.

Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof are the club’s current options though none truly inspire confidence.

The Ivorian comes close but has suffered with fitness problems and a lot of Manchester United’s good defensive record has to do with world class goalkeeper David de Gea.
