Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes England have the quality to go all the way and win the 2018 World Cup in Russia this summer.
The tournament got underway in Moscow on Thursday afternoon as host nation Russia made a dream start as they thrashed woeful Saudi Arabia 5-0.
England’s campaign begins on Monday night when they face Tunisia in Group G before another winnable game against Panama and a potential top-spot decider against Belgium.
Mourinho will be supporting his nation Portugal over the next month – they start their World Cup journey in a colossal clash against Spain on Friday night – but he has backed England’s squad to perform valiantly.
When asked about his thoughts on England’s chances of World Cup glory, Mourinho said: “All of [the squad] play in the most competitive competition in the world, the Premier League.
“All of them are playing for the best teams with experience of playing in Champions League, which is a high level of football. Yes, I think they can [win the World Cup].”
Mourinho will be keeping an eye on all four, as well as the other eight of his players representing other countries, as he prepares for the 2018-19 season.
