Inter Milan reject £57m Manchester United bid for defender Milan Skriniar – report

Manchester United have reportedly had a £57m offer for defender Milan Skriniar rejected by Inter Milan, as their search for a new centre-back this summer continues.

Jose Mourinho is said to have made signing a central defender the club’s main priority ahead of the 2018-19 season and, according to the Manchester Evening News, has drawn up an eight-man shortlist of players who would fit the bill.

That list includes Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng, Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld, who Man United have been in talks for already.

One of the men on Mourinho’s shortlist is Inter defender Skriniar, and Gazzetta dello Sport claim United have had a £57m bid rejected by the Serie A club.

Inter consider him ‘un-transferrable’ which could prompt United moving in another direction to find their man during the close season.

The 23-year-old impressed throughout the 2017-18 campaign, featuring in every single league match for Inter as they conceded just 30 goals and regained their status as a Champions League club.

Skriniar, a Slovakia international, is described as an agile player and tough tackler, and can also be utilised as a defensive midfielder – with Slovaks considering as Martin Skrtel’s successor for the national team.

It’s incredibly likely a new centre-back will arrive at Old Trafford in the transfer window, but at this stage everything seems like speculation and nothing more.
