Luke Shaw could be in line for new Manchester United contract – report

Luke Shaw could be in line for a new contract at Manchester United amid the club’s indecision surrounding the left-back area this summer, according to reports.

The Englishman endured another difficult season under Jose Mourinho during which he only made nine starts since the turn of the year and suffered more public criticism from his manager.

A photo of Shaw on a boat released by the Sun, typically branding him as looking overweight, has only further lowered his stock in the public eye.

But according to M.E.N‘s Samuel Luckhurst, United want to hand Shaw another contract in order to avoid seeing him leave for free at the end of next season.

United’s lack of progress in securing another left-back may also be a factor in this decision. Juventus’ Alex Sandro has long been tipped to be Mourinho’s primary target in that position this summer but there are scant signs of headway being made in that department. The consensus emerging from Turin is that the Serie A champions do not want to sell him.

Shaw, on the other hand, has outlined his ambition to stay at Old Trafford over the summer and fight for his place in the first team.
