Report: Sergej Milinkovic-Savic still a top midfield target for Manchester United

by Alex Turk

Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is reportedly still a top transfer target for Manchester United this summer, despite suggestions interest was lost due to the asking price.

The Serie A club are thought to value Milinkovic-Savic at over £100m which supposedly halted Man United’s plans to sign him ahead of the 2018-19 season.

According to The Independent, Marouane Fellaini‘s imminent departure means Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his midfield options while the transfer window is open.

Fellaini is set to leave as a free agent on 1 July after failing to negotiate terms for a new contract due to demanding in excess of £120,000 per week.

Another midfield player in Michael Carrick has also left Old Trafford, as a player anyway, and will be a part of Mourinho’s backroom staff for the new campaign.

Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred has already been signing for around £50m, but he alone may not be enough for Mourinho to be fully satisfied with his squad come August.

The Independent do add that a potential deal for the 23-year-old is difficult, as already known, with European giants Juventus and Real Madrid waiting in the wings to match any offer made for his services.

This story may drag out for a lot of the summer, certainly until after Milinkovic-Savic is done representing Serbia at the World Cup in Russia, so it’ll be interesting to see how it develops.
