Daley Blind hints he would be open to leaving Manchester United for Ajax

Daley Blind has refused to rule out the prospect of making a return to boyhood club Ajax after a season on the periphery at Manchester United.

The Dutchman, who joined the club four years ago, enjoyed a promising first season under Jose Mourinho, starting in the Europa League final.

But his fortunes have soured more recently: just three starts in all competitions since a nightmarish performance at full-back against FC Basel in November.

And Blind, reportedly subject to an approach from Ajax, admitted his affinity for Ajax, where he received his footballing education, and refused to rule out moving there this summer.

“I can not say much about it, but everyone knows how I feel about Ajax,” he said.

Blind, along with Darmian, is expected to move on this summer after a season consigned to the periphery – miles behind even Luke Shaw – under their manager. And Ajax seems like the logical option: a place he knows and a place which knows him.

His caressed, smooth, versatile style was always at odds with Mourinho’s preference for discipline and muscle on the pitch. He would be right at home in Amsterdam, playing for his boyhood club and slotting perfectly in with the style they espouse. Another season at Old Trafford would just result in further anonymity.
