From Italy: Manchester United intent on signing AC Milan duo Leonardo Bonucci and Alessio Romagnoli

Manchester United will rival Paris Saint Germain for AC Milan defensive duo Leonardo Bonucci and Alessio Romagnoli this summer, according to reports from Italy.

Jose Mourinho has placed his emphasis on signing another central defender before the window shuts in a month’s time having grown distrustful of his current crop.

The defensive pair have enjoyed an impressive 2017/18 campaign for Milan, developing an excellent understanding despite Bonucci only joining last summer.

And according to Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport, Man United and PSG have both expressed a keen interest in the pair and could battle it out for their services over the next month.

Milan will not want to sell the pair, who essentially formed the strongest part of their team last season, but the club’s dire financial situation may leave them with no choice.

Their recent financial takeover ushered in a series of lucrative signings, with Bonucci arriving alongside the likes of Andre Silva and Hakan Calhanoglu, which turn out were a bit too lucrative for their own good. Milan will have to sit out of European football for a year and sell off players in order to satisfy FFP rules.

And Mourinho, whose emphasis has turned almost entirely to a central defender, may well be tempted to take advantage.
