Manchester United set to begin pre-season preparations tomorrow

Manchester United are set to begin their pre-season preparations, with some of the squad expected to be present at the Aon Training Complex on Monday.

With the 2018 World Cup currently taking place in Russia, in which Man United had 12 representatives, a large chunk of Jose Mourinho’s squad will not be present until the pre-season tour of the United States.

Mourinho himself won’t be at the Carrington until the tournament’s conclusion either as he continues to act as a pundit, but will return along with more first team stars in the coming weeks.

David de Gea is on holiday after a disastrous World Cup campaign with Spain, however, back-up goalkeeper Sergio Romero will be joined by new signing Lee Grant and young stoppers Joel Pereira and Kieran O’Hara on the first day.

Phil Jones and Ashley Young have a historic semi-final clash against Croatia on Tuesday to look forward to, but there will still be a number of first team defenders present.

Captain Antonio Valencia will be joined by new understudy Diogo Dalot and returning loanees Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Axel Tuanzebe and Demetri Mitchell, as well as Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling.

Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw are also expected at the training grounds, despite having uncertain futures at the club ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

Just three of last season’s first team midfielders – Ander Herrera, Scott McTominay and Juan Mata – will report for duty tomorrow and they’ll be joined by academy stars James Garner and Angel Gomes.

Andreas Pereira will also return following a successful loan stint at Valencia, while Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial are the forwards expected to be present as well as youngster Tahith Chong.

The majority of first team stars will be on holiday for the next week or so though, including new midfielder Fred, but are all expected to be present at some point of the pre-season tour Stateside.
