Napoli interested in signing Matteo Darmian: report

by Marwan Harraz

Napoli are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United star Matteo Darmian as he steps up his efforts to depart Old Trafford.

The Italian hasn’t hidden his desire to achieve more first team football next season and it doesn’t appear as though it’ll happen under Jose Mourinho’s management.

The Portuguese boss has trusted former winger and veteran Antonio Valencia instead as his first choice right-back, even calling him the league’s best in the position at one point.

It was always going to be unlikely that Darmian would beat the Ecuadorian to the position but his versatility was made use of and he was given the opportunity to shine at left-back.

However, despite Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and even Ashley Young, though temporarily, were all struggling to nail down the position, the former Torino man likewise couldn’t do so.

It seems though that was the last straw for Jose as he rarely played Matteo after that and it’s likely he’ll welcome any bid to move the player on.

However, whether it’s the manager or Ed Woodward, the Red Devils have made it clear they won’t just sell at any price for any player and are keen to make sure they aren’t shortchanged.
