Manchester United are reportedly no longer interested in Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld having chased him since last winter with no real breakthrough.
The Belgian was understood to be keen on the move just as much as Jose Mourinho was but the two clubs themselves couldn’t agree on a transfer fee.
Neither side were willing to budge on their respective valuations of Alderweireld and now the move is completely at risk after this latest piece of news.
Though not seen as a direct replacement, it’s been said United are interested in signing Leicester’s Harry Maguire following his performances in the World Cup.
The two players are on the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of how one is experienced and proven while the other is relatively young and unproven.
This update in the chase for Toby’s signature could be to potentially scare the London club into lowering their evaluation of their player.
Spurs are said to believe he’s worth around the same fee Liverpool paid for Virgil Van Dijk which was estimated at £75m while the Red Devils are unwilling to pay that much for an almost senior player.
The interest in Maguire could very well be real but with other reports claiming Mourinho is keen on getting an experienced, proven centre-back, it could all just be a scare tactic.
