Luke Shaw has no desire to leave Manchester United this summer and wants to stay at the club beyond his contract’s expiry date next year, according to reports.

The defender once again struggled under Jose Mourinho last season, suffering another bout of public criticism from the boss in March and managing only eight Premier League starts.

He has nonetheless remained at Old Trafford over the summer and will, in the absence of Ashley Young, receive chances to impress at left-back over pre-season.

And according to M.E.N‘s Samuel Luckhurst, Shaw also wants to secure a new contract at Man United which keeps him at the club beyond the summer of 2019.

You would think that, following four consecutive seasons marred by a failure to breach the starting XI properly, Shaw’s chance at United would have gone. And it may have already. Another sustained period on the sidelines would surely ignite a January move.

But Shaw, as things stand, is nonetheless in with a shot – a glimmer, a speck of hope still shimmering away amid the cobwebs of his United career to date.

He has all of pre-season to show why he can serve as a viable alternative to Young, and will, remarkably, most likely remain as the club’s second choice left-back at the very least given the club’s reluctance to sign another player in that position over the transfer window.
