Daley Blind sends farewell message to Manchester United fans following Ajax move

Daley Blind has sent supporters a message of farewell after officially rejoining Ajax ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

The club confirmed on Monday night that terms had been agreed with Ajax for Blind, who made 141 appearances in all competitions at Manchester United.

He had hardly featured over the second half of the season under Mourinho and didn’t travel with the first team squad to the United States ahead of completing a move back to Amsterdam.

Blind took to social media on Tuesday morning to thank those involved with the club and insisted he would never forget winning trophies with the “biggest club in the world”.

The 28-year-old could always be counted on. In his first season back in 2014 he impressed as a defensive midfielder before forming a surprisingly good defensive partnership with Chris Smalling the season after, playing a central role in winning the FA Cup in 2016.

He featured more sporadically under Jose Mourinho but had a crucial impact on his side’s Europa League triumph last year, producing a performance in the final against Ajax which typified his best qualities: positionally intelligent, utterly composed, fluid in possession, full of confidence.

Blind can look back on his four years at United fondly. And supporters will no doubt appreciate what he gave to the club during that period. We wish him all the best.
