Manchester United are considering moves for Bayern Munich duo Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara, according to the Independent‘s Miguel Delaney.
The striker and midfielder have both declared a desire to leave the Allianz Arena before the transfer window shuts next month.
Thiago came close to completing a move to Old Trafford in 2013, while Lewandowski is a player Jose Mourinho has admired for some time.
And according to Delaney, Ed Woodward is determined to jumpstart the club’s transfer window by splashing out on the Bayern pair.
These are two names United fans are all too familiar with. There’s a part of you which goes numb at the sight of these names, isn’t there? Both have been relentlessly – and baselessly – linked with United for years now. After a while you stop caring.
Midfield and the striker’s position are hardly priority areas for Mourinho, who is unlikely to invest in the middle any further after Marouane Fellaini signed a new deal at Old Trafford. Signing Lewandowski when you have Romelu Lukaku – currently in the form of his life – makes very little sense at all.
Mourinho will instead continue his pursuit of Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur instead. A deal for Alex Sandro, although increasingly improbable, is not entirely off the cards either.
