Manchester United vs San Jose Earthquakes: Potential XI with Tahith Chong and Alexis Sanchez

Manchester United face a quick turnaround for their second game of their pre-season tour against San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho’s men played out a 1-1 draw with Club America on Thursday during which Juan Mata scored a late equaliser and Tahith Chong impressed with a cameo off the bench.

The 55-year-old has voiced his desire to start Alexis Sanchez for this game after the Chilean, who finally flew to California on Friday, missed the first four days of pre-season training at the UCLA campus due to Visa problems.

With that in mind, here is a potential XI for the clash in Santa Clara.

Chong played 27 minutes against Club America and left supporters demanding to see more of him following a performance full of precise and powerful running on the right hand side. He is a fundamentally different winger to Mata, who also played well in Arizona, and has earned the right to enjoy a full 45 minutes – an action which would, no doubt, serve as motivation for the other youngsters.

The back four will, of course, remain the same. Mourinho stated on Thursday that this quartet would start the season against Leicester City in a thinly veiled demand to Ed Woodward for more reinforcements in that area.

Axel Tuanzebe, who has impressed in defensive midfield before, deserves a chance to show what he can do while Sanchez looks to support Anthony Martial up front.
