Gennaro Gattuso: We want to keep Leonardo Bonucci at all costs

Manchester United will potentially struggle to sign Leonardo Bonucci after AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso’s latest comments claiming the club’s desire to hold onto their star.

The defender became a target for Jose Mourinho at the start of the summer after reports stated he was interested in bringing in an experienced, proven player to lead his backline.

Bonucci fits those traits and it was also believed he could be bought for a relatively cheap price given Milan’s ban from European football, though it has since been overturned.

Nonetheless, some outfits still claim United believe a deal can be struck and so Gattuso has addressed the rumours by insisting he hopes to keep the centre-back at all costs.

It appears it won’t be such a straightforward, easy transfer as some reports claimed it would be and Mourinho may be tempted to look elsewhere.

According to Manchester Evening News, Gennaro said: “Leo is a great professional and an incredible player, and at the moment we have to listen to what he and the other players say.

“We have to respect the choices of the players. Obviously he wants to win but we also want to win.

“We will wait and see because he is an important player that we want to keep at all costs.”

On the other hand, if Leonardo attempted to force through the move a little bit then there’s no doubt it would make things much is easier for the Red Devils.

Jose previously spoke out about how he couldn’t sign a few of his targets due to their reluctance to make the transfer happen.

Gattuso may have inspired some decent form from AC Milan last season but it could ultimately prove to not be enough to convince his stars to stay despite the lack of Champions League football.
