Alexis Sanchez impressed supporters in his first appearance at the pre-season tour of America on Sunday night and Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has predicted a good 2018-19 campaign ahead for him.
The Chile international missed Man United’s first pre-season friendly, a 1-1 draw against Club America in Pheonix on Friday morning, due to issues with his visa.
He acted as United’s main goal threat in Santa Clara though, but couldn’t inspire Jose Mourinho’s side as they played out a dull 0-0 stalemate with San Jose Earthquakes at Levi’s Stadium.
Speaking as a pundit on MUTV after full-time, Robson said he believes now that Alexis knows Mourinho’s style and the teammates around him, he will push on and have a fine first full season at Old Trafford.
“He is a top-class player, there is no doubt about that and I think he is a great signing,” ‘Captain Marvel’ said.
“He didn’t play to the top of his form when he first came but I think, maybe, he was trying too hard to impress, not playing his natural game.
“That will all settle down. He knows the manager, he knows how the manager wants to play and I think we will see a really classy Sanchez this season.”
The 29-year-old scored just three times and provided five assists in 18 appearances at United following his January move from Arsenal, but there’s no doubt we should see a much-improved forward this term.
Mourinho has already revealed that he plans to use Alexis alongside Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez as his front three at the start of the season, with Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard not expected to be ready in time after their impressive World Cup exploits.
