Manchester United played out a mundane goalless draw with San Jose Earthquakes in an almost empty Levi’s Stadium on Sunday night to compound the feeling of gloom among supporters heading into the 2018/19 season.

Jose Mourinho was able to recall Alexis Sanchez for this game and the Chilean produced an impressively lively performance alongside Andreas Pereira, who put in a composed showing in the No.6 role.

Sanchez almost forced an early goal against the bottom MLS side, with Eric Bailly hitting the bar from three yards following the forward’s free-kick. The game ended with San Jose looking the stronger team.
