Timothy Fosu-Mensah: I hope to develop under ‘great manager’ Jose Mourinho

Manchester United star Timothy Fosu-Mensah has explained how he’s gotten better since last season and admitted he hopes to develop further under Jose Mourinho.

The Dutchman was sent out on loan to Crystal Palace where he managed to get plenty of Premier League minutes and impressed consistently.

He’s returned to United gunning for first team action and perhaps to avoid going out on loan once again so his versatility will certainly prove useful.

Capable of playing in central midfield, defensive midfield, centre-back and right-back, Fosu-Mensah will give Mourinho plenty of opportunities to select him should he remain at the club.

Hopefully the youngster can continue to impress on the Red Devils’ pre-season tour and convince the Portuguese boss to keep him in the squad this season.

According to Manchester Evening News, Timothy said: “It was very hot, last season was the same so we know what to expect.

“No problem for me, (to play centre back) last season on loan I played centre back at Palace some times too. It was very good, nice to play in the Premier League, I learned a lot from the manager and from playing and I enjoyed the experience.

“I hope to learn as much and to play and develop under this great manager and be part of this beautiful squad.”

There’s plenty of competition for Fosu-Mensah though regardless of what position he can play in with Manchester United overstocked in every department.

There have been calls to clear out the deadwood though and it’s understood the hierarchy at the club refuse to buy anyone until Jose can move others on.

At centre-back there’s Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo while at right-back there’s Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian and Diogo Dalot.
