Joel Pereira recalls regular practise after penalty shoot-out heroics against AC Milan

Joel Pereira has revealed that plenty of practise with teammates after training has benefitted him after performing heroics in Manchester United’s win against AC Milan on Thursday morning.

The two European powerhouses clashed in the first game of the International Champions Cup at the StubHub Center and drew 1-1 after 90 minutes in what was an exciting affair.

Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring in the 12th minute after a genius volleyed through ball from secondary striker Juan Mata, but former Liverpool winger Suso drew the Serie A club level just three minutes later.

Per International Champions Cup rules, the match went straight to penalties to decide which team would take one point and which would take two, and Pereira stepped up to the plate.

After achieving his second clean sheet of pre-season, albeit in three halves of football, the 22-year-old ‘keeper saved four spot-kicks as Man United ran out 9-8 winners in a thrilling shoot-out.

Speaking to MUTV after full-time, Pereira recalled regular practise with his United teammates when asked about his fine performance.

“I always stay after training doing finishing with the boys. I like to do some bets with them on penalties – a shirt or a dinner or something – so we practise a lot and today worked pretty well for me.”

Pereira will go out on loan for the 2018-19 season, but his future at the club is certainly bright.
