New signing Fred has boarded a flight to Los Angeles and will join up with his Manchester United teammates for the first time on Friday.
The midfielder was announced as the club’s second signing of the transfer window last month, arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee of £52.7m.
He was part of the Brazil squad which went to the quarter-finals at the World Cup in Russia but didn’t play a single minute under manager Tite.
As such, while quarter-finalist Victor Lindelof continues to rest, Fred has boarded the plane to the United States and will train with the squad on Friday.
United’s meeting with Liverpool at the 107,000 capacity Michigan stadium on Saturday will come too soon for the midfielder, but supporters can expect him to appear in a United shirt for the first time against Real Madrid next Tuesday.
Andreas Pereira has injected life into the side’s midfield in the absence of Paul Pogba and Fred, producing enterprising displays in the No.6 role in the club’s first three games of tour. The latter’s arrival, combined with Nemanja Matic – who has trained with the club during the week – coming into the side gives United’s midfield a much more defined feel ahead of the second half of their pre-season.
