Manchester United star David de Gea is hoping he can win big things with the club this season following a disappointingly trophy-less campaign last year.
The Spaniard had yet another outstanding season last year that saw even rival or neutral fans admit he’s the best in the world in his position.
United supporters have been claiming that for a few seasons now but such was De Gea’s form last year that it almost became undeniable.
Unfortunately for the former Atletico Madrid man his hard work didn’t pay off in the form of a team trophy but his efforts were certainly recognised.
The only silverware the Red Devils got close to winning was the FA Cup final but they fell short against Chelsea as they struggled with Romelu Lukaku’s absence from the starting XI.
According to Manchester Evening News, David said to MUTV: “I’m really happy to be back with the team and with my team-mates.
“It’s beautiful weather and I want to be fit as quickly as possible. I had a holiday with my family, with my friends and everyone, and have a full battery to come back here to start again.
“It’s always good to have a break, to relax and enjoy it with people. The season is long. You need to take a good rest and start again. Everything starts again and, hopefully this season, we’ll do our job all together and try to win big things.
“It’s hard. The first training session is always a bit difficult. The weather is hot and it’s hard. I’ll keep focused and training hard.”
If Manchester United want any hope at all of winning a trophy this season then they’ll certainly need David in top form once again.
The goalkeeper is perhaps the club’s only world class player though the likes of Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez come pretty close to that status.
At the start of the summer window it appeared Real Madrid had reignited their interested in De Gea but it’s all cooled down since and he looks set to stay.
