Manchester United fans have reacted negatively to the news that emerged of the club’s interest in signing Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng.
Ironically the reports flooded in just when Jose Mourinho’s men faced off in the pre-season friendly against the German champions.
United lost 1-0 in a disappointing display that will surely not have Leicester City quaking in their boots ahead of the clash at Old Trafford.
The match on Friday will be Mourinho’s first competitive match of an incredibly crucial season that could see him lose his job if the title isn’t won.
Perhaps it’s for that reason the Portuguese boss is said to be willing to bring in Boateng for the Red Devils.
I don’t actually know what’s going on anymore. One minute it’s Yerry Mina, then Harry Maguire, then Toby Alderweireld now Jérôme Boateng 🙄.

If we sign Jerome Boateng I'm done.

Not going to even attempt to decode the transfer rumours. Mina, Alderweireld, Boateng and Maguire. You would think we were signing all of them if you glanced at the press reports, just going to enjoy my holiday and hope we pull something special off by deadline day. #mufc

If we get Jerome Boateng and agree to pay him £250k a week then I will cry. German Chris Smalling.

Jerome’s injury prone record doesn’t bode well with supporters particularly since the rest of the club’s defence are also regular visitors of the medical department.
Jose must be getting frustrated with his inability to rely on a solid, consistently available defensive backline so perhaps Boateng isn’t the answer.
It may be that the former Real Madrid manager thinks the German represents the ideal short-term solution before he puts his faith in Bailly and Lindelof.
