Ed Woodward determined to keep Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial this summer – report

Ed Woodward is hellbent on keeping both Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial at Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

Pogba, reportedly unhappy with Mourinho’s comments on his World Cup performances, has attracted a bid from Barcelona, who have offered Man United £45m plus Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes in exchange for the Frenchman.

Martial, on the other hand, has been linked with a move away all summer after his agent stated he wanted to leave Old Trafford back in June.

But Paul Hirst, in a column for the Times, wrote: “Ed Woodward, United’s executive vice-chairman, is a big supporter of Pogba and will not allow him to leave, especially with the Premier League transfer window closing on Thursday afternoon. Woodward is also determined to prevent Anthony Martial from departing, even though Mourinho wants the France forward to go.”

Mourinho may not care much about the value Pogba and Martial both have on a commercial and experiential level for the the club and supporters respectively, but Woodward certainly does.

Just think: how much global appeal would this club lose if both players left the club tomorrow? It would be seismic. The effects aren’t worth thinking about.

Woodward’s refusal to sell either – especially Martial – will end up proving to be the crucial factor during the next few weeks.
