Manchester United 2-1 Leicester City: Player ratings

by Marwan Harraz

David de Gea 7- Wasn’t called into action frequently but when he was, he was as reassured as ever. If Manchester United are to have a good season, he’ll have to be in fine form again.

Luke Shaw 7- Solid display from the youngster. Good enough defensively and didn’t offer that much going forward until he scored his first senior goal. Plenty to be confident about.

Victor Lindelof 6- Played his role in United’s solid defending and looked comfortable alongside Eric Bailly. A partnership definitely brewing with the two.

Eric Bailly 7- Arguably the best defender on the day. Covered Lindelof whenever he looked exposed and consistently shut down Leicester City’s attacks.

Matteo Darmian 5- The Red Devils weakness was the right flank and the Italian was exposed time and again if he wasn’t given cover. Jose Mourinho can’t be too eager to hold onto him.

Andreas Pereira 7- Calm and silky in possession. A little rash in his defensive midfield role but clear to see he’s growing into it well.

Paul Pogba 8- Easily the man of the match and Manchester United’s best performer. Slotted the penalty away with ease and dictated play excellently. A little flashy at times.

Fred 6- Decent enough debut from the Brazilian. Technical skill was on display but was a little loose with possession at times. Can build on it all.

Juan Mata 7- United’s little magician was another one guilty of losing possession often but never gave up. Got the assist for Shaw’s goal.

Alexis Sanchez 6- Worked tirelessly but gave away the ball far too often. Can do better.

Marcus Rashford 6- Was often isolated but energetically lead the line for United. Has to do better if he wants to win Romelu Lukaku’s spot.
