Andreas Pereira: I am going to try my best to keep playing

Manchester United star Andreas Pereira has revealed his personal target for the season, claiming he will fight for his place in the starting XI.

The Brazilian’s future seemed to be in doubt following his return from his loan spell at Valencia last season.

It was claimed Pereira had left the club against Jose Mourinho’s wishes as he chased first-team minutes away from United.

However, following his impressive pre-season form, it seems he did enough to win over the Portuguese manager and he’s now targeting a key role in the side.

The midfielder’s competitor, Nemanja Matic, will be out of action as he attempts to recover following his surgery due to an injury at the World Cup.

According to the club’s official website, Andreas said to MUTV: “It was very good to go out there, to feel the fans supporting us and to play at home in Old Trafford is always good.

“I am going to try my best to keep playing and help the team as much as I can and hopefully we will see that this season.”

Pereira should have enough time to try and solidify his spot in the starting XI before Matic is deemed fit but it will be a tough ask.

The Serbian is a trusted player of Jose’s as evidenced by his move from Chelsea last summer and how he hardly missed any matches last season.

However, Andreas is young and can win the battle for the defensive midfield spot by outlasting Nemanja who may start to lose his legs soon.

Either way, if the youngster can keep up his form he will give Mourinho the right kind of headache- a selection one.
