Manchester United star Fred reveals why he chose his new club over signing for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side.
Many believed the Brazilian was on his way to the blue side of the city since he was said to be hounded by them for many months.
City had also recently been crowned champions, 19 points ahead of fierce rivals United who were managed by notoriously defensive Jose Mourinho.
For all those factors however, Fred still made the switch from Shakhtar Donetsk to Old Trafford instead.
Mourinho will certainly be pleased things ended that way, particularly since the midfielder proved to be his only major signing of the summer.
According to Manchester Evening News, Fred said to ESPN: “There were options in England and in Europe. Manchester City, PSG, but I chose United.
“I spoke to my agent Gilberto Silva, who played for Arsenal. He told me that United was a huge club. I spoke to my family and friends.”
Fred has already shown himself to be an astute signing, providing something to the Red Devils’ midfield that they previously didn’t have.
The 25 year old has a little bit of everything to his game- good tackling, passing and dribbling but it’s arguably his dynamism that is his most important attribute.
Manchester United’s midfield have proven to be pretty static in the past but with Fred in their side, his mobility is basically priceless.
Now all the former Shakhtar Donetsk man needs is time to adapt to his new surroundings but the hope is he can do so quickly.
