Andreas Pereira‘s excellent start to the 2018-19 season looks set to continue after he received his first call-up to the Brazil national team on Friday.
After impressing on his loan stint in La Liga with Valencia last term, Pereira has cemented his place in Jose Mourinho’s plans at Manchester United and reminded supporters of his quality throughout the pre-season tour of the United States.
A number of stand-out performances were topped off with *that* phenomenal free-kick against Liverpool in Michigan which all culminated in him finally making his Premier League debut last Friday against Leicester City.
Brazil face the USA and El Salvador over the international break and the 22-year-old will be hoping to get some game time on the international stage alongside the likes of Neymar and Philippe Coutinho.
Despite starting off his career as a hopeful winger, Pereira has transitioned into a great holding midfield player and there were he looks set to be used this season at United.
After he merged well with fellow Brazil international Fred and Paul Pogba in front of him in the 2-1 win over Leicester at Old Trafford, that’s likely to be Mourinho’s first-choice midfield trio until Nemanja Matic returns to full fitness.
Even when Matic makes his return, many fans will vouch for Pereira to stay in the team if it continues to work and we’ll get to see him in action again tomorrow against Brighton & Hove Albion.
