Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder turned-TV pundit Jermaine Jenas has made a surprise claim about current manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino was at the top of many Manchester United fans’ shortlists for the managerial job before Jose Mourinho was appointed back in 2016 and he firmly remains in question for the role of Mourinho’s eventual successor.
Jenas has come out and claimed that he knows something we don’t, suggesting the Tottenham boss could be swayed by the opportunity to take the helm at Old Trafford.
He told the Daily Star: “I think [United have] been after him for a long time, to be honest with you. It’d be a huge test. I think deep down that’s the one Pochettino wants.
“There’s only United and Real Madrid that I think really take his fancy.”
Pochettino is entering his fifth season as Spurs manager and has built a team for the future at White Hart Lane and Wembley Stadium ready to challenge for silverware at the club’s new state-of-the-art stadium in North London.
If Man United job was to become available it’d be hard to believe he wouldn’t be tempted to switch alliances, but it’s very clear he’s happy with he is at the moment.
The question remains; how long will Jose Mourinho last as United boss? For however long that is, Pochettino would be a very suitable replacement.
