Paul Scholes: Jose Mourinho not to blame for Brighton & Hove Albion defeat

by Alex Turk

Paul Scholes has been widely critical of Jose Mourinho since he took charge of Manchester United back in 2016, but the club great has now jumped to his defence following the 3-2 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

Man United conceded three times in the first half and showed a frustrating lack of urgency to get back into the game in which has been described as the teams most comical performance under Mourinho so far.

The United manager put the loss down to individual errors after centre-back duo Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof had afternoons to forget at the AMEX Stadium.

Scholes agrees with Mourinho and has become the latest former United player to pin the result on the defence: “I don’t think you can blame the manager today. It’s down to individual mistakes.”

United are going to have to bounce back very quickly if they are to avoid losing even more ground on their fellow title contenders and Tottenham Hotspur are next up at Old Trafford next Monday.

With English pairing Chris Smalling and Phil Jones fit and ready as well as Marcos Rojo waiting on the sidelines, Bailly and Lindelof should feel them breathing down their necks and will want to dramatically improve sooner rather than later.
