Pundit Jamie Carragher has predicted Jose Mourinho’s future at Manchester United, believing he won’t be at the club next season.
The Portuguese manager has been under tremendous pressure of late already due to an accumulation of things.
United’s stale pre-season tour didn’t brighten the mood amongst the fans and the lack of real transfer only frustrated them further.
Fred was the club’s only major signing and Carragher believes that may play a part in why Mourinho won’t be around next campaign.
Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant were also signed but are only expected to provide depth to the starting XI.
According to Manchester Evening News, Jamie said: “Not just because of yesterday and not a big knee-jerk reaction as Man United lost a game away from home, but what’s happened in the summer.
“If performances like that continue, I don’t think Jose Mourinho will be manager of Man United next season. He may not be manager of them at some point this season.
“But I think there will be coaches up and down the country looking at Mourinho at what he said in the summer about bringing players in, a centre-back.
“Now, you can’t just pull the plug on him and go the Man United way again of buying younger players. You’ve got the wrong manager. If you’re going to do that, you might as well get rid of him.”
The Red Devils finished a whooping 19 points behind fierce rivals and champions Manchester City last season.
It was clear if they were to catch up then they would need serious investment which was what was expected to happen.
Even after all three signings were complete, Jose had publicly hoped he would get two new faces but was left empty-handed.
The uninspiring win against Leicester City and shock loss to Brighton only served to add fuel to the fire.
