Timothy Fosu-Mensah receives another call-up to Netherlands senior squad

Timothy Fosu-Mensah has received another call-up to the senior Netherlands side for next month’s clash with Peru.

The youngster, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, has remained in London for this season to play at Fulham, with whom he made his debut against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

He made his senior international debut against France in September last year but was omitted from the most recent Netherlands squad in June.

But he has seen his status in the national team restored with Ronald Koeman making a number of changes to the Netherlands squad for next month’s friendly.

Fosu-Mensah has a glittering opportunity to make his mark at an international level. This is a Netherlands team which, since 2014, has withered away into a husk, and the Koeman era – which started in March – is seen as an opportunity to start afresh.

And there is no reason why the full-back – set to play his second consecutive season for a team battling relegation in the Premier League – cannot be part of that. At Selhurst Park he displayed tenacity, vigour, skill, improvement. He is a player who will be useful for Koeman. And he is someone Manchester United fans will want to see becoming useful at Old Trafford as well.
